CHIEF GANZ ANNOUNCES TRAINING OFFICERS FOR 2011

Chief Nick Ganz has appointed Captain Kris Ganz and Lt. Sandy Menichetti as Training Officers for 2011. Officers Ganz and Menichetti are busy scheduling classes to keep all certifications up to date and to keep all members apprised of the safest and most efficient ways to operate in emergency situations. The "year of training" for the rescue has been off to a rapid start, with three in house sessions completed in the last 14 days. BVRA was completed January 16, 2011.  Anyone wishing to participate in any of our training sessions is welcome to participate. Contact either Officer directly.

BVRA CLASS WRAPS UP ON A COLD JANUARY SATURDAY

The Volunteer Hose Company of Throop completed Basic Vehicle Rescue Awareness training on Saturday January 16, 2011 under the instruction of Matt MacDonald. Over 25 firefighters from Throop, Dickson City, Eynon, Chinchilla and Maplewood worked through several evolution modules consisting of basic stabilization including strut support, lifting, push pull techniques and many others. Assisting MacDonald as supervisors on the work stations were Jim Waters, John Charles and Billy Snyder. "carrying the tools on your vehicle is just not enough. You must be able to use each tool with perfection and carry out the task swiftly" stated MacDonald. A thank you to the Dickson City Fire Department and the 27 Rescue for the use of their vehicles and tools. A Basic Vehicle Operations class is scheduled for January 25, 27 and 29, 2011 followed up by a Basic Vehicle Technician class shortly thereafter. Check back here for details.                                                                                                                  Photos LAW III

WHY KNOT? BE PREPARED, for Low Angle Rope Rescue that is...

Saturday April 10, 2010 was a perfect day for members of the 27 Rescue Company to improve their rope rescue techniques and that was accomplished after nearly 5 hours of training. Capt. Kris Ganz-FF1 and Throop Borough Asst. Chief Maurice Menichetti-FF2  oversaw the training which is sometimes forgotten by many companies as they conduct in-house training sessions. Low angle rescue techniques differ from high angle skills and these techniques are used by the Rescue Company for rescue over an embankment, or mountain rescue situations. Work was conducted on the Figure of 8 family, safety knots, water knots and double fisherman's knots. Anchoring techniques, Belays, Patient Packaging, Lowering and Raising, 2:1,3:1, 4:1 with ratchets and rappelling techniques were also practiced.

Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school was made famous by Brownsville Station in their 1973 Top 40 song and then by Motley Crue in 1985, well it's 2010 and it sure is allowed at the 27 Rescue Station. SCBA training was supervised Saturday evening March 27, 2010 by Training Officer Lt. Sandy Menichetti. Lt. Menichetti and FF Andy Hegedus supervised two JRFF's as they prepare for the day when they will experience "real" smoke conditions* on the fire ground. 27 Rescue JR Fire Chief Anthony Snyder and DCFD JRFF Marty Hrinko, Jr. donned their SCBA's and tackled a difficult course as they continue to sharpen their skills in overall search & rescue operations. While many of today's youth are losing interest in their communities, these two young men continue to devote their time and skills to make the towns they live in proud of their volunteer work. We at the 27 Rescue sure are proud of them both.

*Training was conducted using a simulated smoke/fogging machine

27 Rescue Company has March Madness.

Twice monthly the Officers will be conducting In-House Training Sessions. All members are encouraged to stop by and sharpen their skills and make sure everything is in perfect working order... Remember the 6 P's to Success:

Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance

FF Ganz at 21 years of age is respected beyond his years by his peers for his quick thinking abilities and calm and conscientious decision making. We are proud to call him a brother firefighter. Congrats Gash.

NO REST FOR THE RESCUE

WHILE MANY PEOPLE LOOK AT PRESIDENT'S DAY AS A DAY FOR REST AND RELAXATION DURING THE LONG NORTHEAST WINTER SEASON, THE 27 RESCUE PERSONNEL LOOK UPON IT AS A DAY TO CONTINUOUSLY SHARPEN THEIR SKILLS. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CHIEF NICK GANZ,                 CAPTAIN KRIS GANZ AND LT. SANDY MENICHETTI THESE OFFICERS USED THEIR SKILLS TO SUPERVISE TRAINING FOR SOME OF OUR NEWEST FIREFIGHTERS.

"TRAINING IS A CONTINUOUS TOP PRIORITY FOR ALL RESCUE PERSONNEL" SAYS CHIEF GANZ

THANKS TO SCRANTON DODGE FOR PROVIDING THE TRAINING SUPPLIES

CONGRATULATIONS TO FF MICHAEL POTTER ON HIS COMPLETION OF EMERGENCY VEHICLE DRIVER TRAINING
